Collect

True and humble king, hailed by the crowd as Messiah: grant us the faith to know you and love you, that we may be found beside you on the way of the cross, which is the path of glory.  Amen.

Intercessions

Make us strong:

to do your will in all things.

In your prayers this week could you pray for our five overseas partner Dioceses especially today the Diocese of Dornakal and for Churches Together, St. Marks, Dursley.

Post Communion

Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself in taking the form of a servant, and in obedience died on the cross for our salvation: give us the mind to follow you and to proclaim you as Lord and King, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen.

First Reading – Psalm 118 v19-24

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.

20 This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.

21 I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

All glory, laud and honour

All glory, laud and honour,

to thee, Redeemer King,

to whom the lips of children

made sweet hosannas ring.

Thou art the King of Israel,

thou David’s royal Son,

who in the Lord’s name comest,

the King and blessed one.

The company of angels

are praising thee on high,

and mortals, joined with all things

created, make reply.

The people of the Hebrews

with palms before thee went:

our praise and prayer and anthems

before thee we present.

To thee before thy passion

they sang their hymns of praise:

to thee now high exalted

our melody we raise.

Thou didst accept their praises,

accept the prayers we bring,

who in all good delightest,

thou good and gracious king.

Gospel Reading – Mark 11 v1-11

1When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples 2and said to them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it.  3If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here immediately.’”  4They went away and found a colt tied near a door, outside in the street.  As they were untying it, 5some of the bystanders said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”  6They told them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it.  7Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it.  8Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields.  9Then those who went ahead and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna!  Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!  10Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”  11Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.

O for a closer walk with God

O for a closer walk with God,

a calm and heav’nly frame;

a light to shine upon the road

that leads me to the Lamb.

What peaceful hours I once enjoyed,

how sweet their mem’ry still!

But they have left an aching void

the world can never fill.

The dearest idol I have known,

whate’er that idol be,

help me to tear it from thy throne,

and worship only thee.

So shall my walk be close with God,

calm and serene my frame;

so purer light shall mark the road

that leads me to the Lamb.

Remember that the clocks go forward on Saturday night.

You can pick up palm crosses from the porches at Lower Cam and Coaley, please bring them to the zoom Sunday service.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

Hark all the tribes hosanna cry;

thy humble beast pursues his road

with palms and scattered garments strowed.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

In lowly pomp ride on to die;

O Christ, thy triumphs now begin

o’er captive death and conquered sin.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

The winged squadrons of the sky

look down with sad and wond’ring eyes

to see th’approaching sacrifice.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

Thy last and fiercest strife is nigh;

the Father, on his sapphire throne,

awaits his own appointed Son.

Ride on, ride on in majesty!

In lowly pomp ride on to die;

bow thy meek head to mortal pain,

then take, O God, thy pow’r and reign.
