Collect

Risen Christ, by the lakeside you renewed your call to your disciples: help your Church to obey your command and draw the nations to the fire of your love, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen.

to love one another.

In your prayers this week could you pray for our five overseas partner Dioceses especially today the Diocese of Vasteras and for Churches Together, The Quarry Chapel U.R.C.

Post Communion

God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ gives the water of eternal life: may we thirst for you,
the spring of life and source of goodness,

First Reading – Acts 10 v44-48

44While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word.  45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God.  Then Peter said, 47“Can anyone withhold the water for baptising these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”  48So he ordered them to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.  Then they invited him to stay for several days.

I the Lord of Sea and Sky

I, the Lord of sea and sky,

I have heard my people cry.

All who dwell in dark and sin

my hand will save.

I who made the stars of night,

I will make their darkness bright.

Who will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?

I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if you lead me.

I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,

I have borne my people’s pain.

I have wept for love of them.

They turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone,

give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my word to them.

Whom shall I send?

I, the Lord of wind and flame,

I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them.

My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide

till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give my life to them.

Whom shall I sent?

Gospel Reading – John 15 v9-17

9As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love.  10If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.  11I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.  12“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  13No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14You are my friends if you do what I command you.  15I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.  16You did not choose me but I chose you.  And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name.  17I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

O Jesus I have promised

O Jesus, I have promised

to serve thee to the end;

be thou for ever near me,

my Master and my friend:

I shall not fear the battle

if thou art by my side,

nor wander from the pathway

if thou wilt be my guide.

O let me feel thee near me;

the world is ever near;

I see the sights that dazzle,

the tempting sounds I hear;

my foes are ever near me,

around me and within;

but, Jesus, draw thou nearer,

and shield my soul from sin.

O let me hear thee speaking

in accents clear and still,

above the storms of passion,

the murmurs of self-will;

O speak to reassure me,

to hasten or control;

O speak and make me listen,

thou guardian of my soul.

O Jesus, thou hast promised,

to all who follow thee,

that where thou art in glory

there shall thy servant be;

and, Jesus, I have promised

to serve thee to the end;

O give me grace to follow,

my Master and my friend.
