Post Communion

Lord God our Father, through our Saviour Jesus Christ you have assured your children of eternal life and in baptism have made us one with him: deliver us from the death of sin and raise us to new life in your love, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Ame

First Reading – Acts 4 v32-35

32Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. 33With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.  34There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold.  35They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

Crown him with many Crowns

Crown him with many crowns,

the Lamb upon his throne;

hark, how the heav’nly anthem drowns

all music but its own:

awake, my soul, and sing

of him who died for thee,

and hail him as thy matchless King

through all eternity.

Crown him the Virgin’s Son,

the God incarnate born,

whose arm those crimson trophies won

which now his brow adorn;

fruit of the mystic Rose,

as of that Rose the Stem,

the Root, whence mercy ever flows,

the Babe of Bethlehem.

Crown him the Lord of love;

behold his hands and side,

rich wounds, yet visible above,

in beauty glorified:

no angel in the sky

can fully bear that sight,

but downward bends each burning eye

at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of peace,

whose pow’r a sceptre sways

from pole to pole, that wars may cease,

absorbed in prayer and praise:

his reign shall know no end,

and round his pierced feet

fair flow’rs of paradise extend

their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of years,

the Potentate of time,

Creator of the rolling spheres,

ineffably sublime.

All hail, Redeemer, hail!

for thou hast died for me;

thy praise shall never, never fail

throughout eternity.

Gospel Reading – John 20 v19-31

19When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’  20After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.  21Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.  As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’  22When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’  24But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.  25So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’  But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’

26A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them.  Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ 27Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands.  Reach out your hand and put it in my side.  Do not doubt but believe.’ 28Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’  29Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me?  Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’  30Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.  31But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Jesus stand among us

Jesus, stand among us

at the meeting of our lives,

be our sweet agreement

at the meeting of our eyes.

O Jesus, we love you,

so we gather here,

join our hearts in unity

and take away our fear.

So to you we’re gath’ring

out of each and ev’ry land,

Christ the love between us

at the joining of our hands.

Jesus stand among us

at the breaking of the bread;

join us as one body

as we worship you, our Head.
